“Marijuana” and “Cannabis” are the two terms you most commonly see on newspaper. Sometimes you use slangs like “pot” and “weed” instead, until one day you got laughed by a teenager.
So, what’s your first reaction if this occurred to you? Would you think you are getting too old and being out of date?
Maybe yes and maybe no. But one thing for sure: that teenager who laughed at you may not know other names for “Weed”, or even if he happened to know it, he may not know the reason behind.

420 – It involves five high school students who, back in 1971, would get together at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana by a statue of chemist Louis Pasteur at San Rafael High School in Marin County, Calif. Known as the “Waldos” — Steve Capper, Dave Reddix, Jeffrey Noel, Larry Schwartz, and Mark Gravich — they would say “420” to each other at some point during the school day as code to meet for a smoke.

amnesia – because it can make one forgetful

rainy day woman — this may come from the Bob Dylan song with the chorus line “Everybody must get stoned”
thirteen — the first letter of marijuana is the 13th in the alphabet
alligator cigarette –may also be related to an alligator’s general lack of speed
bag of bones – multiple marijuana cigarettes
cabbage – poor quality bud, perhaps resembling the vegetable
dank – this term started out describing unpleasant, swamp-like things and, like “bad” itself, then came to describe good things, like marijuana of the best quality
Nixon — named after the president, refers to poor quality bud being sold as high quality bud
